Creamy Warming Ayurvedic Millet Porridge Love & a little ‘Hello’ for the first time on the blog, from Motherhood!

Hello beautiful Wholesome Lovers!

…It’s been a while since I’ve shared a recipe on here! Infact, this is my first post on my blog since becoming a Mother to my beautiful Son, 19-months ago now!

(…Here is a little pic of us at our first special Sunrise at the beach together in July last year! …This was such a sublime nourishing magiacl Mumma-heart moment in Mother-Nature with my little gorgeous cub, moment!)

There is much to share and say (if time permits at some future moment) on the incredible joy, love and blessing that becoming a Mumma has been, and is for me. My husband Cameron and I are simply soooo in love with our little cub, he’s divine and fills our home with so much incredible joy and the most profound magic and LOVE each and every day since his conception and birth. (Big Mumma-heart smile over here!)

For now though, I have a mission (while Jahvi peacefully naps on this rainy Winter’s day here on Bundjalung Country in the Northern Rivers, where we still gratefully call home).

My mission is to share this divine yummy and simple – easy to digest wholesome creamy Ayurvedic Millet Porridge recipe with you so that this week YOU too can make this yummy nourishing breakfast for yourself and your loved ones, to gift your tummy, mind, body, spirit and taste-buds the sheer yum yum feel-good deliciousness of this really simple bliss-enducing (…if you happen to be someone who also gets slightly high on a good bowl of porridge with healing Ayurvedic spices!) hehe. :)

So, let’s get straight to it!

Creamy Warming Ayurvedic Millet Porridge!

To make 2 bowls

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of Millet flour (I buy whole millet from my favourite organic bulk food shop Santos Organics and then grind it into a fine powder myself in my VitaMix blender. If you can make your millet flour fresh this really has the best taste, texture and nutritional value!)
  • 2 tsp of Organic Ghee (You can use Coconut Oil if you’re Vegan)
  • Approx 4 cups of Hot Water from your kettle
  • 1 tsp of Cinnamon Powder
  • 6 Cardamon pods (open them and use the seeds inside only)
  • A pinch of Fennel seeds
  • Your love!

Optional toppings: (You can use your creativity here and choose what you have on hand/like that may be different, these are my favourite toppings at the moment though.)

  • Hemp Seeds
  • Pumpkin seed meal (I grind this fresh in a coffee grinder and have it in the fridge to sprinkle on our meals for extra Zinc and goodness.)
  • Some Almond Butter
  • Sliced Figs, Dates or Raisins for sweetness
  • Stewed Apples is also a yummy topping!
  • Some milk of your choice! (Always opt for Organic if dairy milk / Home-made Plant milk or read the label if a store-bought plant milk. I like the brand ‘Pureharvest’ if using store-bought as they have options that are unsweetened and are cleaner than many others available.)

The Creation Process:

  1. Add your Ghee to your pot and warm it gently until melted.
  2. Add your Millet flour to the Ghee and stir swiftly to coat the Millet in the Ghee and ‘toast’ the Millet for a few moments, allowing the Millet to become ‘lighter’, tastier and easier to digest. I like to use a whisk for this process.
  3. Once ‘toasted’ for just a few minutes (be careful to not let it burn by continuously stirring), add hot water from your kettle. Take your whisk and start whisking vigorously to form a creamy consistency, the water and Millet fully combined.
  4. Turn your porridge down to a simmer and add your spices; Cinnamon powder, Fennel seeds & Cardamon (open your cardamon pods up and add the seeds only).
  5. Add your looooove (…of course you are adding this the whole way through!) ;)
  6. Let cook for another 5-7minutes until super creamy. Stirring with your whisk continuously to avoid sticking and burning on the bottom.
  7. Remove from the heat and serve! Take your favourite Porridge bowl, add your chosen ‘toppings’ …I added a dollop of Almond Butter, a tbsp of hemp seeds and a tbsp of Pumpkin Seed meal on top of mine, and some sliced pieces of fig for extra yummy goodness, texture and wholesome sweetness! Feel free to top your porridge with other yummy things as you feel inspired though!

Voila!

That’s it, you made it, now time to find a comfy cosy place to sit in the Sun or at your table and dive in!

Jahvi and I love to take a moment to pause for a moment before we take our first bite (…this doesn’t always happen!) but it really does feel so good and supports optimal digestion. We place our hands over the bowl for a moment, close our eyes and put our love and blessings into the bowl. (It’s soo cute watching him copy me and do this mindful eating practice also! My heart explodes everytime!) :)

So, take a moment, send gratitude to yourself and your beautiful bowl of goodness — centering and supporting strong Agni (digestive fire juices!) and then enjoy!

…I hope this simple nourishing, yet exotic tasty wholesome Sugar-Free, Gluten-Free Ayurvedic Porridge recipe brings your tummy, and your loved ones’ tummies great joy and can become a yummy Simple Ayurvedic staple in your Kitchen now too, as it is in ours!

With love, blessings, joy & celebration!

x Lorien (And sleeping baby Jahvi! We did it!) :)

Big hugs and wholesome wishes to you beautiful Soul, for your day!
